Abstract
Students better engage Hispanic language, culture and community in classrooms enriched by theater practice and performance as well as related outreach activities. Memorizing, preparing and performing theater allows students to internalize the language and convert Spanish from an academic subject into a viable tool for communication. Furthermore, leaving the classroom to take what they learn to the community through outreach and performances brings the work and the language to life.
