About This Journal
Established by Grand Valley State University’s History Department in 2011, the Grand Valley Journal of History is a student-run publication that seeks to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to publish their historical research. The day to day affairs of the journal, including editing and publication, are run by students while a faculty supervisory board oversees the entire operation and aids especially in selecting pieces for publication. This facilitates the development of a community of undergraduate peers who can share their research and evaluate their colleagues in a completely independent manner. Undergraduate students are provided a forum in which creative ways of examining historical events are encouraged and nurtured. The managers of the journal hope that the atmosphere of scholarly interaction they aim to create will help undergraduate students prepare to interact professionally with their fellow scholars in the world beyond the safe confines of their universities.
