Le Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France (August 2016)
On the evening of 14 July 2016, a cargo truck purposefully drove into a crowd of people gathered for Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France. Almost 500 people were injured and 86 people lost their lives. I visited Le Promenade des Anglais one month after these attacks. Mourning shrines led up the boardwalk to a gazebo covered in memorabilia gathered there as a result of the bloodshed in that public and popular place. France has experienced a lot of terror in the last five years and being able to pay homage to the innocent lives caught in the crossfire of larger disputes was something I will never forget.

Mont St. Michel, France
At the top of Le Mont Saint-Michel a cathedral watches out from the sky over the mouth of the Couesnon River. In the very heights of the city lies the heart of this island commune; it's a warm garden with a circular sphere. It mirrors back the grace and delicacy of this sacred place that sits literally on top of a city in the middle of a river mouth. Incroyable!

A woman praying at a local shrine
It is unclear to whom this shrine is dedicated: some say to Hai Leng Ong, the dragon that created the island of Phuket; others claim to Naga, a creature in Buddhist mythology.

Boat Racing Festival in Vang Vieng, Laos
The Festival usually takes place at the end of Buddhist Lent (like most things in Laos, this varies wildly depending on the region). I took this photo towards the end of the day of the races so the atmosphere had calmed down quite a bit from earlier in the day when everybody was screaming for their favorite racers and drinking Beer Lao on the river bank.
