Abstract

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world and one of the fastest growing in the United States. Soccer is an extremely demanding sport that puts its athletes through rigorous training regimens to prepare them for the long and grueling season. The purpose of this research was to present a periodized exercise training regimen that addresses the areas of endurance, speed, agility, power, and strength, key aspects necessary for professional soccer athletes to be in peak physical form. Research conducted and presented within the macrocycle, show training protocols at different stages over a one-year period. A possible limitation to this study was that each team's training regimen is different and there is wide variability from team to team, and often even player to player. However, current athletes and future professional soccer players can benefit from this research by applying the training regimen to better prepare them for more competitive play.
