Abstract

I have been awarded a one-month Artist-in-Residence at The Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY. As an Artist-in-Residence (March 1-April1, 2012), I will be creating a new series of sculptures in kiln cast glass. On March 23rd, 2012, I will give a public lecture on my creative work/research in the museum auditorium. In the Rakow Research library, I will research historical and contemporary kiln casting techniques. In the studios, I will work with an assistant and technician to realize new kiln cast glass sculptures. The new sculptures, similar in form to some of my previous work, will be an exploration of land use with a focus on industry and landscape. I am applying for funds to support mileage from my home to the Corning Museum of Glass (total mileage is 1135, airfare is $515). For a successful residency, I will bring materials and tools from my studio. In addition, driving will save an anticipated $350 from shipping the new cast glass sculptures. As an Artist-in-Residence at the Corning Museum of Glass my creative work/research will be connected to a larger audience facilitating future professional opportunities. The research and experimentation during the residency will directly aid in the creation of work for a two-person exhibition at the Richmond Center for the Visual Arts at Western Michigan University, April-June 2013. The Corning Museum of Glass will provide lodging, a studio assistant, facility use, and material stipend. I am responsible for travel, food, and additional materials beyond the initial stipend.
