How DEI Rollbacks Impact the Economic Segregation Between High-capacity Nonprofits and Grassroots Organizations

Location

Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall

Description

Purpose As diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are being rolled back in corporate settings and the federal government, there is little understanding of the impact that this will have on health-based nonprofit organizations. Subjects Through this analysis, we will study high-capacity (HCNP) and grassroot nonprofit organizations (GRO) in the Michigan area with a focus on health initiatives to investigate how such rollbacks are impacting funding at both the corporate and foundation levels as well as federal grant programs. Methods and Materials Data collection will be completed via survey to the mass audience of health focused nonprofit leaders in the Michigan community. Additionally a small pool of organizational leaders will be identified from each type of organization to complete an interview for qualitative analysis.Analysis Statistical analysis will consist of both quantitative and qualitative methods. From the survey data, descriptive and inferential statistical tests will be used to determine if there is a difference between grassroot and high capacity organizations. We will also consider qualitative data to identify underlying themes that could help explain the statistical results. Results Pending survey and interview results. Study is currently underway. Conclusion Such findings can help identify fund development strategies and potential partnerships to address the economic segregation between organization types. This study is focused in Michigan and would require further analysis to extrapolate to a larger demographic.
