Abstract

A calcite and quartz microstructure study was done to constrain the burial and exhumation history of the Paleozoic rocks in the Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas. Thin sections we re petrographically analyzed and paleotemperature estimates derived from them were plotted on a map. These indicate that the most thermally mature rocks crop out in the core of the Benton uplift. These rocks have experienced greater exhumation than those on the surrounding flanks of the uplift. Also, the western portion of the core area has experienced greater exhumation than the eastern portion.
