Event Title

Development of a Health Insurance Data Dashboard

Location

Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall

Description

PURPOSE: A data dashboard is an information management tool that visually tracks, analyzes, and displays key performance indicators, metrics, and key data points to monitor a business process. Data dashboards can be adapted to meet specific needs. Behind the scenes, a dashboard connects to data files or services, but on the computer screen, it displays this data in form of tables, line charts, bar charts, and gauges. A data dashboard is the most efficient way to track multiple data sources in real time. It provides a central location to monitor and efficiently analyze performance. The purpose of this project is to develop a data dashboard with the intention of highlighting organizational and team data on a daily basis for a local health insurance provider. The business case is that teams typically have several people working on a variety of projects and this dashboard highlights all the projects that a particular team has worked on and the budget spent on a particular project. PROCEDURES: For the data dashboard, we accumulated data for all project and team resources, number of hours, and other related information using the TableauTM software. We worked closely with the customer and integrated findings from various articles on usability of dashboards to build an effective data dashboard. OUTCOME: This project focused on serving the needs of business users and leadership. It will be integrated into the everyday use of project management for the insurance organization. IMPACT: This dashboard will help users analyze and view all available resource and project information and thus support a more efficient project management environment.
