Description

The Citizen Social Science training program is designed to be implemented by residents in their own community, equipping local citizens to build capacity and develop industry-standard data management skills at the grassroots level. Industry standards ensure the integrity and value of data, important qualities for findings to be accepted and leveraged, both near and far. This quantitative data training will help you learn to collect, analyze, and report numeric data collected from community surveys.

A special thanks to Kerri VanderHoff (Coalition for Community Development) and Marquis Childers (Muskegon Heights Neighborhood Association Council), who were the community partners who collaborated on this Citizen Social Science Project as well as the cohort of students based in Muskegon Heights who participated in the initial Citizen Social Science: Quantitative Data Training. In addition, the work of undergraduate research assistants Louis Cousino and Alexis Phillips was crucial for the development and implementation of this training. Finally, this work was supported in part by funding from a capacity building award received by the Muskegon County Health Equity Council from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Office of Equity and Minority Health in partnership with the Michigan Public Health Institute.
