Abstract
Students who are mathematically gifted have many unique learning needs that are not being met in the general education classroom. This project aims to challenge gifted fourth grade students in the general education classroom through the use of cluster grouping and a supplementary geometry enrichment unit. The unit is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and is designed to enrich and accelerate students’ learning beyond the fourth grade level curriculum. A pre-assessment and scoring guide allows the teacher to utilize curriculum compacting to identify previously mastered standards and choose learning activities that are more appropriately challenging for each individual student. Activities in the unit are differentiated by learning profile, student interests, and readiness level.
