Abstract
In this presentation we will explore many myths in American history, from where the Columbus holiday came from to the speech on race by Barack Obama. Some of the topics fit the "politically correct" mode, but some show the highlights our "multicultural" society has left out. For example, slaves freed themselves and Abraham Lincoln really freed no one when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. However, without large numbers of white males many of the popular reform movements like civil and women's rights would have never come to fruition. The presentation should prompt interesting discussions, as none of the long-held beliefs of Americans about certain topics is fully true or false. There is a lot of gray area in history.
