Abstract
I will be working on a sequence of lyric poems, likely continuing some work begun during my 2010 sabbatical. Since the poems involve psychological issues of relationships and family set in natural as well as mythic landscapes, Ireland is the perfect setting--my ethnic heritage is Irish. My plans envision a sequence of 10-12 poems that will each deal with a family story embodying beliefs or family myths. These beliefs once held as truth are now questioned by the adult speaker. My reading will concentrate on Robert Frost, Edward Thomas, Eavan Boland, and Seamus Heaney. At the conclusion of my residency I will give a presentation: a reading following by discussion, questions and answers. (Guthrie Centre is an international retreat center for artists and writers.)
