Abstract

In this presentation, I overview youtube vlogging to illustrate the many ways that youtube provides an ideal arena for observing, learning about, practicing, and teaching various insights of General Semantics. I first talk a little bit about youtube, the culture of youtube vlogging, and then, I address how basic concepts and orientations from General Semantics can be usefully brought to bear, including: semantic reaction, consciousness of abstracting, to me-ness, frozen evaluation, dating, bypassing, intensional vs. extensional thinking, etc. I also try to spell out some of the unique opportunities and challenges that youtube vlogging poses for 21st century discourse and time-binding.
