Abstract
I will explore the aesthetic I plan to bring, as an American director, to Shakespeare while accommodating and integrating Bangladeshi theatre training, language and aesthetics. How can creating theatre, particularly Shakespeare, be a means of cultural exchange between artistic communities? Further research areas include defamiliarization through translation in Shakespearean production and essentialist theories of the universality of Shakespeare in other cultures.
