Abstract
This paper analyzes the potential for in-class policy debates to promote political learning in the undergraduate communication classroom. Political learning is distinguished from community service in order to highlight different modes of civic engagement. Through the use of examples from a variety of communication courses (including Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Political Communication and Media Literacy) the author details strategies for encouraging and assessing students' political learning through curriculum-based policy debates.
