Abstract

Most undergraduate research projects in mathematics aim to provide students with an opportunity to engage new math- ematical ideas and perhaps even make their own contributions to the field of mathematics. Apart from the actual mathematical content, however, undergraduate research also provides a unique context for students to develop their communication skills, collaborate with diverse peers, and participate in the broader mathematical community. In this talk, I will focus on these broader skills and experiences, discussing strategies for mentoring holistic research experiences that promote mathematical, professional, and personal growth.
