Abstract
The Michigan Museum Association (MMA) in 2008 secured a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Service, the primary source of federal support for US libraries and museums, to assess the status and needs of Michigans collecting institutions. The Project Steering Committee refined the initial listing of more than 3,000 collections to 1,513 and in Fall 2010, the GVSU Johnson Center for Philanthropy in collaboration with the MMA started data collection. A three pronged approach was used: 1.Distributing paper surveys by US mail; 2. Emailing a link to the on-line survey; and 3. Completing the on-line survey via a link at the MMA website.
