Abstract
Sustainable supply chain is a prerequisite for all companies that are engaged in the global marketplace. The management in these companies view sustainability as a powerful source of competitive and market advantage. These companies have established sustainability strategies and have made progress with pragmatic approaches, even during the time of severe economic recession. In the pursuit of making their supply chains sustainable, these companies continue to evaluate suppliers and their supply-management organizations across multiple dimensions of sustainability; and have successfully linked the objectives of sustainability with cost effectiveness, customer service, and other objectives. The reason why sustainable supply chain is so important is because it can address every stage of the life cycle of the product including all economic, environmental, and social impacts on employees, workers, users and the overall community in which the business operates.
