Abstract

Nurse retention is a major issue that many healthcare organizations are facing. The increase of nurses leaving the acute care setting is leaving a strain on the nursing profession and patient care, and it has caused many organizations to undergo financial hardships. Wages, leadership, and the work environment play a vital role in nurse retention. This article describes a quality improvement project in which a cancer hospital in a Mid-western urban community focused on improving the work environment to improve nurse retention.
