Abstract
Marginalized populations face barriers when accessing higher education in the United States. The discussion highlights the need to address systemic barriers such as financial limitations, racial discrimination, and inadequate academic preparation. Traditional admission policies primarily rely on standardized testing and have limited effectiveness in identifying students who may thrive in higher education. To address these limitations, implementing a holistic admissions policy, which considers various factors such as socioeconomic background, cultural experiences, and personal qualities, has been proposed as a potential solution. This project outlines a year-long investigation into higher education policies, which includes developing training programs for faculty and staff and generating supplementary resources for prospective students.
