Abstract
The transfer student population continues to grow in colleges across the nation. Transfer students are struggling to adjust to their new colleges socially due to culture shock. This project explores literature regarding transfer students and what colleges are currently doing to help or hinder their social transition. A solution to reduce culture shock for transfer students is to create a day-long orientation program that utilizes representatives from student affairs offices across campus and peer mentors to lead small groups of transfer students through the day. Transfer student surveys, peer mentor surveys, and retention rates will allow for assessment of transfer student orientation to learn if changes should be made for the upcoming year to better reduce culture shock of transfer students.
