Abstract
Research has shown that gaps in literacy exist between students who attend a preschool program and students who do not. To help close the gap in literacy, in kindergarten, preschool should be made available to all students. Preschool allows young students to have experiences that are beneficial for being successful in kindergarten. Preschool prepares a young student socially, emotionally, and academically for kindergarten. A public service event, free to families, is needed to educate families on why preschool is important. Local preschool programs would be in attendance to allow for convenient enrollment opportunities.
