Event Title

Marketing a For-Profit Company in a Nonprofit Community

Location

Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall

Description

PURPOSE: I am the Director of Marketing, Promotions, & Events for Cumulus Media. Cumulus Media Grand Rapids houses the radio stations WLAV, WHTS, WTNR, WKLQ, and WBBL-AM. For my project, I made new marketing materials for each station. In such a philanthropic community, I felt that we needed new materials to make our company stand out in a sea of nonprofits. PROCEDURES: To complete the work, I analyzed what our company was currently using for marketing. I interviewed those using the materials, and logged what was working and what was not. I researched changes to the stations since the materials were last updated. I also interviewed all on-air personalities for current biographies, to make sure our clients would be receiving the most accurate information. OUTCOME: My final project consists of several different packages, organized at one per radio station. The completion was met with distribution within the Cumulus organization. Employees customize materials for their clients. They use the materials for clients wanting to learn more about our radio stations and what can be offered as an advertiser. IMPACT: While creating these marketing materials, I was able to utilize the research skills I learned throughout my education, as well as showcase my creativity on the presentation of the material. My organizational effectiveness was greatly enhanced during my studies. Completing this final project was the epitome of bringing my graduate studies to my organization.
