Description
PURPOSE: The purpose of this internship was to gain a hands-on understanding and perspective of what a Biostatistician does on a day to day basis outside of the classroom. This internship was integral to the degree program because it allowed me to demonstrate what I have learned in my courses and learn more about what being a Biostatistician means. CHALLENGE: The main challenge throughout this internship was learning to navigate a remote setup while also establishing communication and working collaboratively with team members. EXPERIENCE: This internship allowed me to work on my communication, presentation, programming, and statistical skills. I was able to have weekly meetings with my manager which helped establish good communication. OUTCOME: This internship allowed me to gain confidence in myself when presenting analysis information and encouraged me to take on challenges outside of my comfort zone by fostering a positive environment. IMPACT: This internship introduced me to a topic in Biostatistics that I never knew existed. This experience was incredibly valuable because I saw how medical devices can help improve a person’s quality of life by allowing them to be able to move around comfortably to play sports, go for walks, or even spend time with their family. All of this opened my eyes to a number of different perspectives that Biostatistics and medical devices can be used to create a positive impact on society.
