Understanding company culture and how sustainability relates to inclusivity and the intent of a company can pave the way for a future when diversity is fully realized in society. SUBJECTS: Fortune 500 companies. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Descriptive research study of Amazon, Walmart, and Apple, in terms of diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in the workplace. ANALYSIS: Researching and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses in the workplace in terms of diversity and inclusion, as well as understanding and analyzing public pressures, internal pressures, and outside influences that affect company action/lack of action. RESULTS: The study finds an underrepresentation of women and people of color in leadership positions, and a lack of diverse talent across many fields. Although companies are making strides to improve inclusivity and diversity on their leadership teams, women and people of color continue to face obstacles in the process of being hired, working for a company, and climbing the corporate ladder. CONCLUSION: This research study provides support for diversity and inclusion to promote sustainable companies and move society into a safer and more inclusive space.
