Strategies and Resources for Integrating Technology into the Secondary Education World Language Classroom

Location

Hager-Lubbers Exhibition Hall

Description

PURPOSE: This project explores one of the most prominent barriers to the integration of technology into school curriculum, which has been identified as lack of preparedness of teachers with instructional technology resources. The increasing advancement of technological innovations has been challenging conventional approaches to the teaching of second languages. METHODS: Methodologies of language teaching and learning that were once considered traditional are now being rivaled and replaced by more innovative approaches. The advent of new technologies in education has created a seemingly endless supply of pedagogical tools for teachers to use, but my research found that the expanse of the Internet can leave teachers feeling overwhelmed and under-trained. ANALYSES: My project outlines the advantages of technology integration into curriculum, and how the use of technology could be optimized with ongoing teacher education. RESULTS: I created a research-based reference manual, complete with an example unit that can be adapted to fit multiple subject areas. The project includes with a plan for how teachers can be taught to use and adapt these tools through the implementation of a teacher professional development workshop.
