Abstract
The overall goal of this project is to determine the identity and location of all genes, including isoforms, in fosmid23 and fosmid25 of the 2nd 3L control region of Drosophila erecta. Utilizing online algorithms such as GenScan, GeneRecord Finder, Gene Model Checker and NCBI’s BLAST, the DNA of D. erecta can be compared to the fully annotated genome of D. melanogaster (reference species) to find orthologous genes in fosmid23 and fosmid25. Once orthologs are found, synteny can be determined by comparing the order and direction of each gene in both species.
