Abstract
This paper defines Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) and breaks down how its use is affected by university and department leadership, reward systems, culture, faculty values and beliefs, and students. It is informed by previous research as well as one-on-one interviews with STEM faculty at Grand Valley State University. Finally, it summarizes recommendations from faculty to support the use of DBER at comprehensive universities like Grand Valley.
