Abstract

A scoping review was conducted to determine which occupational therapy interventions are used with individuals with eating disorders and what effect they have, if any. Four databases were searched to identify sources of evidence, initially resulting in 527 sources. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to further review and determine the eligibility of each source. A total of 48 studies were included in the final scoping review. Data extraction of eligible articles resulted in 11 categories of eating disorder based interventions. The research showed the significant role occupational therapy has in the treatment of individuals with eating disorders, although there is a gap in the literature of data-driven research regarding an ideal treatment framework. Occupational therapists are using a combination of interventions and frequently work among an interprofessional team to provide treatment for this population.
