Evaluate: Authority and Primary/Secondary Sources
Abstract
This lesson was created for a Writing 120 class where students were required to use a contemporary primary source in their upcoming assignment. This lesson covers:
- How can an academic library help with research?
- What is a primary source?
- Activity: review an article about ethical tourism where the author highlights the voices of native people but is not an island resident herself. Consider, what kinds of authority are used to speak on the topic? Would you consider this a primary or secondary source?
- Search demo: How do I use the library to find sources?
