Abstract

Research has revealed important information about effective online teaching. Yet, there is an achievement gap amongst students. This project reviews the research which reveals important factors that greatly impact effective teaching of students online. For teachers to decrease the achievement gap while instructing students in a distance learning environment, teachers must be trained and guided to recognize the factors involved which impact student learning in the online environment. Teachers must also receive training to help them adapt their practices and continue to equip them with the necessary skills that online teaching requires. These skills involve the ability to expand their understanding of the technology as well as their review of effective pedagogy and best practices for effective teaching. Additionally, this project provides practical tools that will begin to provide the necessary training to properly equip teachers for distance learning instruction and to positively impact the achievement gap among students while learning online.
