Abstract

The author describes his journey as a pre-service teacher collaborating with other educators to prepare and deliver a professional development conference session for in-service teachers. The session integrates two instructional frameworks for promoting collaboration and discussion in the mathematics classroom: Complex Instruction (Cohen & Lotan, 2014), and The Five Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematical Discussions (Smith & Stein, 2011).
