Abstract
Community college libraries are busy places, where no two days are the same. In the midst of the busyness of the day-to-day work, there is value in taking time to reflect. The act of writing this chapter is one way of taking time to reflect on the literature produced by community college library professionals over the last thirty years. It is the author’s hope that this review will produce a picture of some of the stories of community college libraries and how they strive to serve their students.
In examining the literature, several main themes arose to describe the conversations occurring in the community college library literature. These themes are interconnected and useful in understanding the work of community college librarians, the goals we have in doing our work, and the ways in which we go about it. In addition to these themes, this study identifies gaps in the literature that can hopefully be filled in during the next thirty years of rich professional literature about the community college library.
