Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which IPE is implemented in the didactic curricula of the five Michigan PA programs. A survey was sent out that targeted the academic coordinators of the these programs. The survey tool asked for the following information about the PA program: program age, class size, other healthcare disciplines offered by the university, current IPE opportunities for PA students, documentation of these opportunities, and plans for future incorporation of IPE into didactic curricula. Results found on average, 3 other types of health programs are offered along with PA studies. Eighty percent of Michigan PA programs offer IPE opportunities for their students. PA students interact with nursing students the most. Sixty percent of physician assistant programs plan to increase IPE opportunities for students in the future. In conclusion, IPE is a component of most PA programs in Michigan and more IPE activities for PA students will be incorporated in the future.
