Karen F. Thomas is professor of literacy education at
Western Michigan University where she directs the Dorothy
J. McGinnis Reading Center & Clinic, serves as editor
of Reading Horizons, and teaches undergraduate and
graduate literacy courses. She has been a classroom teacher
of reading and English in elementary, middle, and high
schools in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, and Belgium.
