Ed Spicer teaches first-grade students at North Ward Elementary School in Allegan, Michigan.
He also runs a teen book group at Allegan High School and coordinates the high school literacy
contest for high school authors and artists. He has been a member of the Teen Read Week
Committee, the Michael L. Printz Committee (2005), Best Books for Young Adults (2006-2008),
and the Randolph Caldecott Committee (2009 ). Ed gives presentations on books to schools, universities,
libraries, and even groups like the American Chemical Society ( on teaching visual
literacy). Currently, Ed is a member of the William C. Morris Award Committee of the Young
Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. Ed was
